Excellent value overall, very cheap indeed - as long as you are not too big or claustrophobic for the pod option. Also, if there are lots of people in the room, it might be a good idea to brief people about disturbing others late at night or early in the morning. Excellent overall as I say though

Information about fire security in the old wooden house would be positive.
The use of automatic smell"machines" was not very nice, especially in the sleeping room.

birmingham central backpackers is one of the best hostels i've stayed in. it's hard to say what's better -- the great staff, the fantastic central location, or the best common area ever. seems to appeal to everyone of all ages.
complaints? have free food more often?

The hostel's reception area shouts, "Come in and chill out!" Staff very friendly and welcoming. Single room in separate building clean, fresh and nice small touches. Bunk beds shakey and mattress is Chinese torture! Immediate area around hostel industrial and spooky at night but probably safe enough. Breakfast could be more exciting. 9 out of 10.

Fantastic location and service. Close to everything, friendly staff, free breakfast and dinner, and very clean. Will be back again.

The worst mattress I've ever slept on. I felt every spring and to top things off, the room was absolutely freezing.
